Azerbaijan to host the 23rd General Assembly of ICOMOS
On October 22, the 22nd Triennial General Assembly of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) was held in Kuching, Malaysia.
During the assembly, Sadaqat Davudova, Deputy Chairperson of the Board of the Reserve Management Center under the State Tourism Agency, made a presentation regarding Baku's candidacy to host the organization's next Triennial General Assembly in 2029.
The presentation provided information on Azerbaijan's rich cultural heritage, particularly its monuments and historical sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Baku's modern infrastructure, and its experience in organizing international events. Additionally, a video highlighting Azerbaijan's tangible and intangible cultural heritage was screened.
The ICOMOS Board of Directors adopted a decision for the city of Baku to host the 23rd Triennial General Assembly of ICOMOS in 2029.
It should be noted that the ICOMOS Azerbaijan National Committee, established in 2021 with the support of the State Tourism Agency, operates to protect cultural heritage in the country, develop international cooperation, and promote professional experience exchange in this field. The triennial General Assembly of ICOMOS is one of the most important international platforms in the field of cultural heritage conservation.
