International conference on "Artificial Intelligence and Patents" kicks off in Baku
An international conference on "Artificial Intelligence and Patents" co-organized by the Intellectual Property Agency of Azerbaijan and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) started in Baku.
Addressing the ceremony, Professor Kamran Imanov, Chairman of the Board of the Intellectual Property Agency, noted that artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the greatest technological achievements of human civilization.
"Intellectual property should not obscure new technologies, but rather adapt to them," Kamran Imanov noted. He emphasized that issues related to AI are always in the spotlight in Azerbaijan. "Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025-2028", approved by the relevant Decree of President Ilham Aliyev, covers the economy, public administration, education, infrastructure, etc,” the Chairman added.
Opening remarks were made by Grigory Ivliyev, President of the Eurasian Patent Office, Ulrike Till, Director of the Intellectual Property and Frontier Technologies Division of the WIPO, representatives of the Japan Patent Office, the French Patent and Trademark Office, the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Korea, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Hasan Hasanli, Deputy Minister of Science and Education, Murad Huseynov, Deputy Minister of Culture, Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the "Icherisheher" State Historical and Architectural Reserve, Jeyhun Salmanov, Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Anar Narimanov, Head of the Digital Management Department of the Ministry of Economy, and others.
Following the remarks, Kamran Imanov, Chairman of the Board of the Intellectual Property Agency, delivered an extensive report on the theme “Using AI in intellectual property: from mathematical roots to practical and philosophical-legal aspects.”
The two-day conference will hear reports by foreign experts on the topics such as AI and intellectual property policy, patenting of inventions related to AI, application of AI as a tool in the patent system, use of AI in management of processes, intellectual property policy on AI, patent authorship and ownership of rights, as well as a roundtable on the theme “AI and intellectual property objects”.
