Representatives of Albanian-Udi Christian Community in Azerbaijan visit Khudavang Monastery Complex

Representatives of the Albanian-Udi Christian Community in Azerbaijan, regarded as the successor to the Albanian (Caucasian) Apostolic Autocephalous Church, visited the Khudavang Monastery Complex in Kalbajar district.

During the visit, they performed religious rites, prayed, and lit candles at a church within the complex.

In an interview with AZERTAC Rafik Danakari, Deputy Chairman of the Alban-Udi Christian Community in Azerbaijan, said that members of the community have been visiting the Khudavang Monastery Complex annually since 2020. He noted that they have also visited other monasteries and churches in the liberated territories, as well as the Juma Mosque in Aghdam district.

Underscoring the significance of Alban-Udi community members performing religious rites in the Udi language, the language of the ancient Caucasian Albanian religious heritage, Rafik Danakari emphasized: “These churches are the heritage and culture of the Azerbaijani people. All religious sites and places of worship in Azerbaijan have their rightful owner — the Azerbaijani people.”

Romen Callati, a member of the religious community, described the heritage of Caucasian Albania as an integral part of Azerbaijan’s heritage.
