Baku-hosted Turkic World Week explores development dynamics of Turkic languages

On June 29, Turkic World Week, marking the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, featured a panel discussion on the development dynamics of Turkic languages from historical and philological perspectives.

Moderated by Shafag Mehraliyeva, Executive Director of the "House of the Writer" Literature Support Foundation, the panel highlighted the importance of establishing a common Turkic alphabet, developing shared terminology and a common scientific environment, as well as accelerating cultural integration among the Turkic states.

The speakers included Nizami Jafarov, academician and Director of the Atatürk Center in Azerbaijan; Osman Mert, professor and President of the Turkish Language Association; Eun-kyung Oh, Director of the South Korea-based Institute for Eurasian Turkic Studies; Hamidulla Baltabayev, professor and Head of the Department of Uzbek Literary Studies at the National University of Uzbekistan; and Gylgaisha Sagidolda, professor at Kazakhstan’s Eurasian National University.

Turkic World Week, which will run until July 3, is co-organized by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), and the Ministry of Science and Education, in partnership with the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), TURKSOY, Baku State University, the Turkic Academy, and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.

The week, comprising a series of scientific and cultural events, was organized in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated October 22, 2025, "On Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the First Turkological Congress."
