Speaking to journalists on April 16, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk praised the development of transport-logistics infrastructure in the region. According to him, the regional road network has already been established.

“Azerbaijan and Russia enjoy close and diversified relations. Both countries’ leaders maintain regular contacts, and concrete tasks are implemented within the intergovernmental commission,” he said.

Overchuk noted that the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Zangilan gave instructions to the relevant agencies to analyze the trade structure and the increase in turnover.

Describing the regional infrastructure as an integral part of the North-South and East-West transport corridors, Overchuk expressed Russia’s interest in the full-scale operation of this infrastructure within a short period of time.

He also stressed the strategic significance of the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway in shaping the North-South transport corridor, describing the project as a crucial logistics link between Iranian and Russian ports, also extending to the Baltic Sea.
