98

Commemorative events dedicated to the memory of the January 20 tragedy victims continue in Paris.

Azerbaijani diplomats in France visited the graves of Alimardan bey Topchubashov, Chairman of the Parliament of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, and Jeyhun Hajibayli, editor of the "Azerbaijan" newspaper of that period. Both figures are interred at the Saint-Cloud Cemetery near Paris.

The diplomats laid wreaths at the graves and observed a minute of silence to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the January 20 tragedy.

Addressing the ceremony, Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Leyla Abdullayeva, Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Ambassador Elman Abdullayev, and the Embassy’s Military Attaché, Colonel Javid Abdullayev, noted that January 20, though written in blood, stands as a glorious page in the history of Azerbaijan's struggle for freedom and independence.

They emphasized that the first political assessment of the "Bloody January" events was given at the initiative of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the modern independent Azerbaijani state. Under the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, who successfully continues the political course of the National Leader, the valiant Azerbaijani Army has written the most magnificent page in the nation's history.
