The 6th Eurasian Conference, RISK 2024, titled "Innovations in Minimizing Natural and Technological Risks of Climate Change: Methodology and Practice," is being held at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) within the framework of COP29. Nobel Peace Prize laureates Professor Sviatoslav Timashev and Professor Elena Nikitina, along with nearly 100 scientists from various countries worldwide, are participating in the conference.
The conference began with the playing of Azerbaijan’s national anthem.
In his opening remarks, the Rector of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Professor Vilayat Valiyev, highlighted the importance of hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan and the significance of the topics discussed during the events organized under its framework. The rector announced that AzTU would launch a new project within the context of the "Sustainable University" initiative, contributing to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He noted that the project, focusing on renewable energy, involves the establishment of a Green Technology Park on a one-hectare area of AzTU's campus. Solar panels with a total capacity of 1.5 megawatts will be installed on the roofs of the buildings within the park. These panels will not only generate electricity but also serve as windows, providing natural lighting. Once the project is implemented, AzTU will autonomously meet the green energy needs of its campus and supply energy to surrounding facilities.
Subsequently, Nobel Peace Prize laureates Professor Sviatoslav Timashev and Professor Elena Nikitina, Professor Ahmet Duran Sahin from Istanbul Technical University, and the conference chair and main organizer and sponsor, Professor Vugar Aliyev, Director of the international company "AMIR Technical Services," expressed hope that the discussions would contribute to mitigating the risks associated with climate change.
A video message from the conference's co-chair from the United States, Professor Boyan Dimitrov of Kettering University, was also broadcast during the event.
The two-day conference continues its work through sectional meetings.
