News on the prospects of CJSC "Azerbaijan Railways" (ADY)
Within the framework of the "State Program for 2025–2030," technical and commercial issues regarding the acquisition of 20 passenger trains, as well as 50 sleeping cars for interregional routes, are being discussed. Currently, proposals from foreign companies are being evaluated. This was reported by media outlets citing CJSC "Azerbaijan Railways" (ADY).
At the end of October, ADY and the Chinese company CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive signed a contract for the supply of 4 new passenger trains. According to media reports citing ADY, each train will consist of 7 cars and have a capacity of 434 seats (first, business, and standard classes). With a length of about 135 meters, the trains will be capable of reaching a maximum operational speed of 140 km/h, while their design speed will be 160 km/h.
According to the terms of the contract, the delivery of the trains must be carried out within 2 years.
In June, ADY concluded a contract with the Chinese company CRRC Ziyang for the purchase of 4 main-line passenger locomotives. In addition, last month 7 freight locomotives arrived from China, and the purchase of another 14 is planned for the next stage.
According to experts, this is great news because Azerbaijan Railways clearly lacks rolling stock. The demand for railway travel and transportation is growing and significantly outstrips supply.
