By 2030, the area of land in Azerbaijan equipped with modern irrigation systems is expected to reach 300,000 hectares, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov said during a meeting on agricultural issues held under the chairmanship of President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Report, the minister noted that in 2025 this figure stood at 130,000 hectares, and the main goal is to increase it to 300,000 hectares by 2030 in line with the instructions of the head of state.

He added that this initiative would increase productivity, improve farmers' welfare in the regions, and help develop export potential for certain agricultural products. He also said that pilot land consolidation will be implemented in two regions of Azerbaijan for the first time, alongside the construction of intra-farm irrigation networks and modern closed irrigation systems.

According to Mammadov, in wheat and cotton production, a key objective is to achieve yields of 5 tons per hectare in specialized regions. He emphasized that over the next five years, the main focus will be on increasing overall production through higher yields and expanding cotton processing capacity, with the expansion of modern irrigation systems playing a central role.
